I live in NE Ohio, and we’re smack in the middle of my favorite season. Fall. Football. Bonfires and s’mores. Jeans and hoodies. This year, though, it still feels like summer, with the high temps and humidity hanging on for dear life (I had the air conditioner on yesterday for crying out loud).
I’m not complaining, mind you. We wear boots a lot longer than we wear flip flops around these parts so I’m relishing in it for now, but I want to wear my cute fall clothes already. The temperatures say it’s summer, but the calendar says it’s fall.
And so do the trees. The leaves are starting to change colors and blanket the ground, and I love every beautiful minute of it.
And then it hit me…
Did you ever notice how the trees all change colors at different times? Some are in full-on reds and oranges while others are still completely green!
The vibrant colors of one shout , “It’s fall – just look at me!” Yet others still have the color of spring.
It’s the same with us.
Sometimes we feel like we’re stuck in perpetual summer when the calendar says fall. We’re ready for the next season, our friends have all moved into the next season, but the heat and humidity just won’t let go. For us, it’s still summer.
If you’re discouraged and wondering when you get to change colors (or seasons), please take heart!
We all step into things at different times and speeds, but your time will come. It will. Say it out loud, “This season will change. My time will come. God is at work in a realm I can’t see preparing it all for me. I trust Him.”
Relax. Enjoy where you are on the way to where you’re going. Ask Him to help you delight in every beautiful minute of it. It will be over before you know it. I promise.
Don’t give up. Keep following the One who changes the seasons. It will be beautiful in its time!
