Well….it’s definitely winter here in the Northeast already. It’s a tad bit early. There are leaves on my trees and snow on the ground, and oh yea. We set a new record low temp today. Usually, it’s January or February before I start dreaming about going to Hawaii. What’s not to love about getting on a plane in -10 degree temps and getting off a plane to a balmy 80 degrees in paradise? I’ve done it before, and believe you me, there’s nothing quite like it. Being able to thaw out in that change of scenery will energize me and give me just the boost I need to make it through the next couple months (or in this case the next 6 months) of cold. But this year, I’m dreaming about it early. I could really use that change of scenery now, and it’s only been cold and snowy for a week. I could really use a change of scenery from the cold and snow and stress and chaos and busy-ness of life. Who’s with me?

Change of plans…
Ever have a plan that kept getting changed? Or get hit with one thing after another with no break in sight? Ever wonder why? We can take a little hope from Mark chapter 6 today. There may just be a miracle right around the corner.
What Are You Drinking?
Life in = life out. There is a river that we can drink of….the rivers of living water that flow from the throne of God…..but we can also have our roots drinking in of worry, doubt, anxiety, and many other things that contaminate and dilute our water supply. So…What Are You Drinking?
When you can’t say no….
Doesn’t the thought of getting away sound good right about now? Especially someplace warm and tropical? The thought of sitting on a beach with my feet in the warm sand listening to the sound of the waves sounds AH-MAY-ZING right now! Where all I have to think about is finding a great seashell and eating another pineapple whip. Who doesn’t need a little extra down time? What happens when we can’t get away? When we can’t un-busy our lives? When we can’t say no?
Where does busy come from?
Busy comes in all shapes and sizes and for various reasons. It can be because of a busy season, like Christmas! Or maybe it’s because we’re planning a special event. Busy can be because we have more kids than hands and they keep us busy from sun up to sun down. People tell me all the time that I’m really going to miss this season of life…going from work to football game to soccer game to music lesson to cooking dinner to……(I believe them….kinda….) One reason for busy that’s not so healthy is when we’re busy because we have to be. I don’t mean have to because someone is making us. I mean have to because if we aren’t busy doing something, we feel we have no value. We find our identity and self-worth in what we do. This isn’t good, but I think at one time or another, we’ve all found ourselves here. I know I have. What can we do about that?
