Today is Wednesday. It’s the middle of the week in the middle of February (the middle month of winter), which is the hardest season here in NE Ohio.
In a couple weeks when we cross over into March, we will be only a few short weeks away from the beginning of springtime. Warmer temperatures. No more snow. New life bursting forth on the trees and in our flower beds.
But today we’re in the middle of everything.
When the children of Israel left Egypt, it was only a short journey to the Promised Land. Only 380 miles as the crow flies. In an airplane they would have got there in less than an hour.
But they didn’t have planes or cars. They were walking, and it was a 10-day journey on foot. Only 10 days. T E N D A Y S.
They turned what should have taken less than two weeks took years instead. They turned it into 40 years of wandering with their words.
They were in the middle. They were no longer in Egypt but they weren’t yet to the Promised Land. And the middle can be a tough place to navigate. It’s an easy place to complain. Faint. Lose heart. Get discouraged.
So I whispered to my heartbroken soul, “Take courage.”
Psalm 42:4
Be careful what you whisper to your soul. What you say today determines where you walk tomorrow.
This morning as I was getting ready, I remembered the song It is Well by Bethel Music and thought it might encourage you. I especially love the bridge:
So let go my soul and trust in Him. The waves and wind still know His name.
It is Well by Bethel Music
Even when the wind is blowing and the storms are raging, make sure what you are whispering (or shouting) lines up with the Word and character of our heavenly Father. What you’re facing doesn’t change who He is. He doesn’t change. He is faithful. And He can be trusted.
So…what are you speaking over your soul?
