Is My Arm Too Short?

I’ve been working on a blog post for days now, but it’s not quite done yet. It needs to keep “cooking” just a little bit longer, so I’m not posting it today. But I did want to encourage you with this. Is My arm too short?

I know, that’s an odd question, but the Lord really helped me with this yesterday. I have something that I’ve been standing for….and standing for quite some time now. Sometimes when we’re waiting for faith to be made sight, it’s easy to get weary. To get tired. To lose faith. To let it go. So I pray this helps you as much as it helped me.

But Moses responded to the Lord, “There are 600,000 foot soldiers here with me, and yet you say, ‘I will give them meat for a whole month!’ Even if we butchered all our flocks and herds, would that satisfy them? Even if we caught all the fish in the sea, would that be enough?” Then the Lord said to Moses, Is the Lord’s arm too short (has My arm lost its power)? Now you will see whether or not my word comes true!” (Numbers 11:21-23)

Let me give you the back story (you can read the full chapter here). The Israelites were in the wilderness, and the foreigners living with them began to complain about what they missed about Egypt. The food. Then some of the Israelites chimed in. They got so focused on missing the food from Egypt that they started to complain about what God had given to them.

They started to complain about the fresh manna from heaven. The Bible describes the manna as tasting like pastries baked with olive oil. I mean, what’s not to love?

Moses cried out to God about it. God answered that He would provide meat, and Moses just couldn’t wrap his head around that. He was trying with all his might to figure out how God could provide meat for all those people, and he just couldn’t do it. And I love how God responded…”Is My arm too short? Has my arm lost its power?”

What a reminder. They had lived through and experienced the power of God in such a tangible way with His deliverance from Egypt. All the plagues. The splitting of the Red Sea. Amazing, amazing miracles. And God was just bringing his focus back to the One who can do anything….who has all power…whose strong right arm had brought them this far.

Let this encourage you today. God’s arm still has not lost its power. He is WELL ABLE to do what He has promised you and me. We need to stop trying to figure out HOW He’s going to do it. We never will be able to figure it out. We just need to trust Him. He is faithful who promised. His arm has not lost its power. His Word will come true for you. Keep standing. Keep believing. Keep trusting. He is faithful!
