It Was Finished

It is finished.
Three words that reveal the longing of
     all generations.
           Brought death. A hidden hope.
His final words.

This cry released
from blood-stained lips as
     the hopes and fears
         of all the years was
   crushed
           beaten
                condemned.
Crucified.

His breath conceived humanity…
we were fashioned from His dust.
    For family.
        For love.
He wanted us.

Then the fall. All was lost
In a moment of time from
   the sin.
       The darkness.

Who can rescue from the shame?

Eternity confined Himself to time.
He came. He walked.
     He healed, revealing
           the Father’s heart of love.

The plan was clear.
He had to choose
   to take my place.
          To suffer for me.
Violently.

“Let this cup pass!”
“Is there no other way?”
      Oh the agony.
              Great drops of blood
dripped down His face.

Immortality hung between earth and sky
Upon that cross
      and died.
My sin the nails
    that held Him there.
Liquid love emptied from his veins.

My life was His goal.
          His death is my prize.

He could have called.
They would have come.
    Legions.
        Angels.
To rescue Him.

But He chose silence.
     He wanted to die.
          I mattered more.
This is love defined.

It is finished.
Three words whispered and
        all was restored.
What remains?
     For me to call Him
            Lord.

It’s a sweet surrender
To love.
To hope. To peace.
     To joy.
            To life.

Now I am His.
   AndHe is mine.
        Again.
           Forever.

Because it was finished.
