Rest. It can be elusive. We’re constantly bombarded with images and screens and noise and crisis. The cacophony of the news in one room and the game in the other and dogs barking and kids fighting and……The mind is always moving. Churning. Thinking. Grappling with problems that overwhelm until we’re exhausted. Weighed down with burdens too big to bear.
I just can’t.
Rest. Constantly out of reach. Hiding. I want it. I need it. Where is it? Sucked into the drama of everyday chaos like a vacuum. Running kids. Grocery lists. Work. Family. Weddings. Funerals. Housework. Homework. Make it stop!
I can’t keep up.
Stop. Take a minute. Close your eyes and take a deep breath.
Come to Me…and you will find rest for your soul. (Matthew 11:28)
Come to Me. It doesn’t have to be hours. It’s a quick turning. An about-face of thought. A constant prompting of the mind, “He’s with me. His grace is enough. I have help.”
Breathe. Relax. He’s got you.
Lord, breathe into each one of us the life and peace and joy and refreshing of your constant abiding presence. Give us the grace and strength we need to get it all done. And when the pandemonium of the day presses in on us, help us come to You and find rest for our souls.
Calgon Take Me Away is a message about what to do when you’re overwhelmed for anyone feeling it today.
