totes mcgoats amazing!

space

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. (Genesis 1:1-3)

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. (Hebrews 1:1-3)

I love to be outside. Maybe it’s because our house is so small and the outside is so big, but I just love to be out there. I’d rather go for a walk than exercise in the house. I love sitting out by a campfire and looking up into a clear, starry sky. I imagine what it was like when God told Abraham to try to count the stars. I dream about the wise men following the star to Jesus. I like to imagine what it was like when God spoke into the vastness of nothingness and stars formed. And I like to think that God is totes mcgoats amazing!

Creation is one of the greatest displays of the power of God. When the people in the Old Testament needed to encourage their faith, they always reminded themselves that God is the creator of heaven and earth. Remembering what He had done always encouraged them that He would do what He said He would do. He is powerful. He is amazing. He is able to deliver. After all, look what He did!

Creation still encourages my faith. When I need to remember His power and ability, I can read in Genesis chapter one over and over again…God said, and it was so. God said, and it was so. God said, and it was so! Everything we see was formed by God…formed by His words. God spoke this world into existence.

Then, we come to see in Hebrews that not only was the world formed by His words, it is still sustained by the power of His Word. What word? Let there be!

Everything we see around us, the universes we are still discovering out in space, the waves crashing against the shores, the mountains towering in their heights, the sun and moon and stars, even the things we can’t see with our eyes….ALL THESE THINGS are still sustained and held in place and operate by the power of the word that was spoken however many thousands of years ago when God said Let there be!

That thought never ceases to amaze me. How big and powerful and amazing is our God?

And this is the God that we talk to when we pray. This is the same One that loves us and died for us and rose again for us and gave us that same authority that He had when He spoke the worlds into existence…when He walked on the earth.

His Words carry power. They bring heaven to earth. They did when He spoke them, and they are supposed to when we speak them. I’m sure we’ll look at this again later….our words and our authority….but today, I just wanted to remind you (and me) just Who we are talking to when we pray. Just how amazing and powerful He is.

So what is our call to action today? What do we do with this word? I don’t know….maybe it’s just to remember how powerful our God is. Maybe it’s just to take some extra time to think on how amazing He is and to be more fascinated with Him today than our problems or anything else trying to get our attention. He truly is amazing!

What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us? Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else? (Romans 8:31-32)
